Rawdon Golf & Lawn Tennis Club is home to an exceptionally well maintained and intricate parkland 9 hole golf course, first established in 1896. 18 unique tee positions present the player with a different challenge through the front and back 9s.
An uphill par 5 to start the round along a tree lined fairway. Though there are no bunkers on this opening hole, a narrow challenging green presents a test should the player short side themselves.
A par 3 of 145 yards played from a much different angle on the back 9 to a well bunkered green. A risk and reward hole should the flag be tucked tight at the back of the green.
The first par 4 plays downhill towards the clubhouse on a right to left undulating fairway. The back 9 tee shot plays from a more elevated position, encouraging an aggressive hit. However, missing left poses lots of trouble for the player who needs to judge their approach carefully to a two tier green.
A tough par 4. Stroke index 1 on the back 9 with an tight drive from under Buckstone Rock. Wayward drives left will be punished out of bounds whereas the right side of the fairway is hemmed with trees from tee to green. A good drive leaves an approach to a huge green giving many options for flag positions.
A great par 5 playing from the top of the hill. At over 500 yards this is the longest hole which the bigger hitters may wish to take on in two. Exercise caution however as the elevated tee shot is often at the mercy of a strong wind. Be mindful of the two fairway bunkers placed approximately 100 yards from the green.
A tight drive on the front 9, this par 4 has a subtle dog leg and is stroke index 2. A long but narrow green is protected by two bunkers at the front and out of bounds at the rear. A straighter and easier hole on the back nine but an errant driver leaves a tough approach to the narrow green.
Another par 4 with a pronounced ninety degree dog leg left. A well placed tee shot is a must to leave an uphill second to a two tier green with bunkers left and right. Pay close attention to the flag position when approaching this green, the tier is significant and a vicious downhill putt can get away quickly.
The signature par 3 played downhill to a green surrounded by six bunkers. Miss the target at your peril! Subject to flag position, the player can easily find themselves short sided with an unenviable up and down required for par. At 160 yards, this is a great hole that would grace any course.
Up the hill and home. At 300 yards this straight par on the front 9 is transformed into a dog leg to right on the back 9. The infamous ‘Car Wash’ conifers can punish a poor driver and the steep faced Captain’s bunker protects the front of this green.
